After listening to our trek stories and reading our blog, our close relative who stays in Bengaluru showed their interest towards trekking. So we decided to have one group trek/outing with Social distancing. Considering kids in the group we decided to do the easier trek.
After doing some research we finalised the Mandaragiri Hills.
Mandaragiri Hills is around 70km from Bangalore, and took around 2 hours to reach to the parking spot. We saw around 10 more cars parked in the parking slot. It was a surprise for us because all the places we went earlier, hardly had any cars or people around. This was little disappointing to me but decided to continue anyways.

The place - On the base of hill there is a Jain temple(which was closed due to Corona). Unlike other hills, this is a barren naked hill. there were no tree, no shrubs, no cactus not even grass while climbing up. There were also carved steps to climb up. This was pretty straightforward climb around 450 steps, but due to hot day it was tiring and dehydrating. The view from the top was beautiful and surroundings were full of farms and greenery.
We came for trekking!! we will not use steps. :) |

Some construction work was going on top of the hill, so we did not stay there and moved towards the other side of the hill. There is a small pond on the left side and a huge lake, Mydala Kere lake, directly opposite from where we climbed. We decided to trek down towards the lake. This side had better view, with lake, hills and greenery. We rested for some time and clicked few pics and then started descend. there were trees, chameleon, flowers and cactus on the way. We had good shades for resting/waiting as well
There were so many Eagle/Hawk circling above the lake and we saw them diving to catch fishes. We discussed about food chain and life cycle with kids, Science can be taught best in nature. Water was cool and soothing in the hot weather. Kids jumped and bathed in the lake while we chatted and munched some snacks.

This is not ideal place if you are looking for big distance trekking. This is good place for picnic point of view and to spend time with family. It can get very hot and sunny so get umbrellas.
Awesome place ...
